I brief introduction about me; hello, my name is Annie. I've just celebrated my fourteenth birthday. I've always been the somewhat dorky girl at the front of the classrom that always had her nose stuck in a book. All of my so-called "talents" seemed to be out of the career option--I'm a talented skier, but live no where near a mountain. I'm very arguementive, but becoming a lawyer would derive me of my social life. I'm good with money, but I'd rather not spend all day behind a desk looking at numbers. I'm good at explaining things, but I don't want to be anywhere near a school after I graduate college. Of course, all of my passions tend to be something I lack talent in--I love singing, but I wasn't even called back for the school play. I like to draw, but my penguins tend to look like frogs. I enjoy doing my friends' makeup, and though I'm a fairly decent makeup artist if I do say so myself, from what I've heard there is little or no money in the cosmetics industry. So, one day, when I'm going off about how I'm never going to have a life when I've left college, my friend Julia interjects and tells me to try writing. I blink, stunned as the thought crossed my mind. I'd always been very imaginative, and though I'd often tell my friends stories I'd crafted, the thought had never crossed my mind to actually sit down in front of the computer and write. About a year ago, later that day, I sat down and typed out three-thousand words that would soon become my first short story. As I'd finished writing, I skimmed over my work, shocked that what I'd accomplished was far better than my expectations. Since then, I've been spending most--if not all--of my free time simply writing. It's come to be my passion and my lifelong ambition, and I can honestly say that I can't imagine myself doing anything...except maybe scuba diving in my retirement. Of course though, the matter of age comes crashing down on me. Dangnabbit, I'm fourteen. So, my question to you; what advice can you give me to help me better my knowledge of the writing industry? What little tips and secrets do you know that you can pass down to me? Can you explain how to properly hunt down an agent and get published? Thank you so much. --Annie xoxoxox... Read More »
